Training services in beekeeping for students: opportunities for the beekeeper to diversify his activity

In beekeeping, the beekeeper has the opportunity to obtain several ways of income: by the sale of products or by the sale of services.

PRODUCTS:

The products that the beekeeper can traditionally produce and sell are: pure honey from different kinds of honey, pure beeswax, pollen, propolis or propolis, bee venom ...

Regarding the products, the beekeeper can sell these products without transforming (he will sell them to another company that will treat, transform and package them).

The beekeeper can also choose to treat, transform and package all or some of these products. In that case, the beekeeper will have to make an investment effort (time, money, machinery, trained personnel ...) to sell a product already transformed and with a certain added value with respect to the unprocessed product.

It will be the same beekeeper who has to assess whether or not he decides to transform the product. The most elaborate products that respond to a need that the market currently demands are those that will have the greatest added value and, therefore, a higher selling price.

It will always be the beekeeper and his environment who decides whether or not to invest in the transformation of the product and decide what products to produce and in what formats to present them for sale.

SERVICES:

The beekeeper can also offer services, both for companies and individuals.

For example, the beekeeper can offer services of pollination of crops and farms, can offer activities related to beekeeping tourism, can offer services related to urban beekeeping, and ... can offer training!

-Training schools:

There is currently a certain training offer for beekeepers, ranging from introductory courses to beekeeping to much more advanced courses (such as queens rearing courses). This type of service can be offered to individuals (people who want to learn the craft of beekeeping as a hobby or as a future profession) and also to companies (to train their employees with theoretical and practical knowledge of beekeeping).

In relation to the training services that the beekeeper can offer is that of lectures, presentations or master classes to students who go to school.

The beekeeper can design a class (talk, exhibition, master class with question time ...) on beekeeping that addresses topics adapted to the age of the students.

You can accompany the presentation of the content with slides, with material (hives, pictures, wax, honey, pollen, propolis), with explanation of your day to day as a beekeeper, of the manufacturing processes of honey ...

It will be the beekeeper who will design the format and content of the class (master class, exhibition, presentation ...) and present it as a proposal to schools and institutes.

An important recommendation: always set aside time for students to ask questions, since the most important thing is that they can ask questions and have more information about beekeeping.

What is positive about doing classes, lectures or presentations of beekeeping in schools?

The advantages are:

- Students of all ages have the opportunity to learn more about beekeeping.

- Public awareness of the importance of bees for the environment.

- The beekeeper diversifies his source of income (not only depends on the production of products such as honey, wax, pollen, propolis ...).

- The beekeeper sees his trade recognized and valued.

- It is very possible that some student is interested in beekeeping and in the future wants to be a beekeeper (amateur or professional) with what will be very positive for the beekeeping sector of the country.
